City of Viroqua reminds residents “No Mow May” ends on Saturday

May 28, 2025

“No Mow May” ends this week, Saturday, May 31. During the month of May, the City ordinance regarding Noxious Weeds and Regulation of Length of Grass (Chapter 8.32) are not enforced. A grace period through June 3 of each year is provided to allow time to bring properties into compliance.

As “No Mow May” ends remember:

• All property owners have until the end of day on June 3 to bring their properties and adjoining boulevards back into compliance. On June 4, the city will resume enforcement of the ordinance, which includes the amendment detailed below.

Per Amendment of the Noxious Weed Ordinance

All grass must not exceed 8 inches in height unless:

• the grass is located at least 3 feet from your property line AND

• the grass is located in an established landscaping bed. A landscaping bed is defined as an area of plantings clearly and intentionally delineated from the remainder of the property by a natural or human-made border.

Except during the month of May, the Viroqua Police Department will be asked to issue citations to property owners who are in violation of this ordinance (Chapter 8.32). It is important to note that the City will NOT be sending notifications prior to citations being issued.
