City of Viroqua outlines results of lead service line inventory, next steps for residents

November 11, 2024

Last month Viroqua Utilities launched an on-line inventory of water service line materials to allow the public to access service line information.  A water service line is the water pipe that connects your property to the larger sized public system water main. The purpose of this material inventory is to identify any lead or galvanized lines in the system. Galvanized services can present a risk to lead exposure if they were ever historically connected to lead.

During the week of November 12, property owners and residents with galvanized or unknown service line materials will be sent a letter to provide next steps and information of the potential risk of lead in the water service lines. Viroqua Utilities hasn’t found any lead service pipes currently in the system.  We are aware of 108 Galvanized property side services and 107 unknown material services.

If you want to arrange for an employee to help you identify your material or if you would like to report the material, you found please contact Viroqua Utilities at 608-637-8724.
