The city of Viroqua would once again like to remind everyone of their responsibilities
related to winter weather.
Sidewalk Snow/Ice Removal
All property owners are responsible for removing snow and ice from any sidewalks that
abut their property and a street. The City ordinance requires the full width of the
sidewalk to be cleared within 24 hours after it has ceased to snow. Property owners not
in compliance will be cited and required to pay additional penalties if the City is required
to bring the sidewalk into compliance.
On-Street Parking
On-street parking is not allowed during a Winter Snow Event which is defined as a
snowfall of 1.5 inches or more. During that time, all vehicles must be removed from
onstreet parking until the City street crews have removed the snow to the curb line.
There are additional restrictions for on-street parking in the downtown area to allow
crews to haul the snow in the following days. For additional details, please visit the
City’s website at https://viroqua-wisconsin.com/new-parking-regulations. To receive
alerts on future Winter Snow Events, sign up for NIXLE by texting your Zip Code to 888777.
During the 2022-2023 snow season, the City experienced a high number of vehicles not
in compliance with the ordinance. Vehicles not in compliance are subject to being
ticketed and towed. Vehicle owners will be cited and required to cover the cost of
towing.
