City of Viroqua announces closure of part of County Road NN for resurfacing project starting this week

VIROQUA, Wis. – The City of Viroqua is notifying motorists that County Road NN from Main Street to FS Drive will undergo road resurfacing during the week of August 4, 2024, weather permitting. City officials say this segment of NN had significant amounts of cracks and rutting. The old asphalt will be torn up and removed. Gravel and other base materials will then be added and regraded before a new layer of asphalt is applied.

This section of Country Road NN will only be available to residential traffic which includes houses on NN from Main Street to FS Drive, as well as houses located on Sunset Drive and Sunset Court. One lane of traffic will be left open for residential access. All other traffic will have to use FS Drive to access County Road NN.

After the gravel and base material have been placed, County Road NN will be reopened to through traffic. Car travel on the gravel segment allows for further compaction of the road’s base material. Later in August, Mathy Construction will add the asphalt to NN. Laying the asphalt is expected to take half of a day.

The work for this project will be performed by the Viroqua Street Department and Mathy Construction. This road resurfacing project is partially funded by a WisDOT grant secured by the Viroqua Public Works Department.
