VIROQUA, Wis. – The City of Viroqua is seeking candidates to fill a vacancy on the City Council for Ward 8 after the resignation of Alderperson Kristal Welter. The resignation was accepted by the council on Sept. 30.

The city is accepting letters of interest from residents who would like to serve their community as the interim council representative. The mayor will appoint a replacement, who must then be confirmed by the Common Council. The council intends to confirm the appointment on Oct. 28, 2025.
The appointed individual will serve a term ending on April 21, 2026.
To be eligible, candidates must be registered electors living within the city’s Ward 8. The city has made a ward map available for residents to verify their address.
The appointed council member will be expected to serve on several municipal committees. Responsibilities include attending meetings for the Public Works Committee, which meets on the first and third Tuesdays of each month from 5:00 to 6:00 p.m.. The representative will also serve on the Finance Committee, which convenes on the second and last Tuesday of the month from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m., and the Plan Commission, which holds meetings one or two Wednesdays per month starting at 5:00 p.m.. The city notes that these meeting schedules are subject to change.
Residents interested in the position must submit a one-page letter of interest that includes their full name, home address, contact information, background and qualifications, and a statement explaining their interest in serving the community.

The deadline for submissions is Wednesday, Oct. 15, 2025.
