HILLSBORO, Wis. – The city of Hillsboro held a groundbreaking ceremony on Thursday for a new daycare and senior center located at 603 Enterprise Drive. City officials along with state and federal representatives attended the event for the facility that will be constructed over the course of the summer.

Hillsboro City Administrator Josh Finch said the facility is the result of years of collaborative work and several layers of funding to pull the project off. Finch said the city provided develop funding combined with private funding. And a collaboration between Caliber Properties and St. Paul’s Lutheran Church made everything come together. St. Paul’s is already operating childcare programs in the community and will now be able to lease space from Caliber Properties for the new center that will offer placement for up to 33 children.

“This a great opportunity for Hillsboro for expansion of a much needed childcare and senior center,” said Finch. “Having the ability to have something in town is so critical to the continuous progression of our community. And if it wasn’t for all of you, the commitment of Caliber Properties, St Paul’s and everybody involved, it would not be possible. So thank you guys for being here today. Thank you for the dedication, the commitment. This is a great thing for this community, and we have a lot to be proud of so thank you for being here.”

Mayor Greg Kubarski echoed Finch and said the project was very long in coming and took a lot of coordination.

“It’s been in the makings for a long time. Thanks to Josh, the administrator, and all everybody that’s involved,” said Kubarski. “This was a real tag team effort on a lot of people’s part to make this a reality. But Josh (Finch) has got a lot of hours in on this, making this happen. I know that everybody does, and it’s really great to see dirt moving, because it’s a it’s been long awaited. Our area, the whole area, not just the city of Hillsboro, is really lacking on childcare and places for seniors to maybe hang out also. But going to be a great asset for this whole area, not just Hillsboro, for Wonewoc and Union Center. The whole area.”

State Representative Tara Johnson (D-La Crosse) congratulated the city for its innovative approach to solving a very difficult issue.

“The issues of child care, housing, safe places for seniors, safe places for people to come together, really challenge all communities around the state of Wisconsin and throughout the 96th district,” said Johnson. “And I just want to say congratulations for your innovation, for thinking way outside of the box. To think about bringing childcare and a senior center together. You persevered, as the mayor said, It’s been a long time coming, and this facility is going to be one of those examples that folks all around the state look at and say, my gosh, Hillsboro, how innovative. You really, really came up with a creative solution to some really vexing issues in your community. And I just want to say congratulations and thank you to everyone who put in the effort to to get us to this day today. So congratulations.”

State Senator Brad Pfaff (D-Onalaska) also applauded to the city for listening to residents and filling a large need.

“I believe the best ideas come from the ground up,” said Pfaff. “I believe that we need to make sure that we hear and listen to everyone in the community to be able to find solutions that meet the needs right here on the ground. This community came together recognizing the need for childcare and also for a place for seniors to be able to come together and share their thoughts and their ideas. And again, I congratulate the entire community for recognizing the needs of the people in this community and stepping forward and investing in a project like this. I will just say this, we can’t live in a more beautiful area than we do here in western Wisconsin. Just look at this scenery that the horizon And just the motivation and inspiration, recognizing the fact that this truly is beautiful. So again thank you for your work.”
