VIROQUA, Wis. – Long time Viroqua Alderman Dave Tryggestad announced through a letter to the city council last month that he was stepping down as Ward 1 Alderman. Tryggestad has served as a representative for Ward 1 a couple of times over the years. Tryggestad was appointed in the council by then Mayor Larry Fanta in September of 2003 and and served until he resigned in December of 2011. He served again after being elected to the council in April of 2019 until his resignation on in June of this year. Tryggestad’s current term runs though April of 2025.
In a phone interview with Viroqua Mayor Justin running he stated that Tryggestad had submitted a letter last month announcing he resignation from the council is due to personal reasons. At the July 9 city council meeting Mayor Running announced he was appointing Seth Mc Clurg to fill out Tryggestad’s term.
Mc Clurg was in attendance for the meeting and introduced himself prior to the council voting to approve his appointment. Mc Clurg said he was born and raised on a dairy farm just outside of Viroqua and moved away for a time but moved back and now lives in Ward 1. Mc CLurg said he is active in the community including coaching youth sports.
“I look forward to being a contributing member,” said Mc Clurg. “I’m not naive. I will have a lot of things to learn and a lot of responsibilities to pick up, but look forward to contributing and being a future Alderman.”
