Boat lands in the highway after two vehicle crash in Genoa

GENOA, Wis. – A fishing boat landed in the middle of State Highway 35 in Genoa on Monday as a the result of two vehicle crash. According to Sheriff Roy Torgerson the crash happened at around 8:00 a.m. in the village of Genoa.

The Sheriff’s Office says 60-year-old Leslie D. Ladd of Avoca, Wis. was driving north on State Highway 35 when he came to a stop to wait for oncoming traffic to clear in order to make a left-hand turn. Ladd had a 16′ fishing boat that he was trailering. Denise L. Barrett, 41 of Prairie du Chien, Wis. was also traveling north and collided with the rear of the boat that the Ladd vehicle was pulling. The boat was dislodged from the trailer and landed on the highway in the southbound lane.

Barrett sustained minor injuries and received treatment at the scene. An occupant in the Barrett vehicle was transported to Gundersen Health System in La Crosse, WI as a precaution. All occupants were wearing their seatbelts and airbags did not deploy in Barrett’s vehicle.

State highway 35 was shut down to one lane for approximately one hour.

Assisting the Sheriff’s Office were the Genoa-Harmony Fire & Rescue and Tri-State Ambulance/Gundersen Ambulance.

The crash remains under investigation.
