Driver and passenger uninjured in end-over-end rollover crash near Viola

Viola, Wis. – The Vernon County Sheriff’s Office is reporting a single vehicle rollover crash that happened late Friday afternoon near Viola. According to the Sheriff’s Office on Friday, June 30th, just after 4:30 p.m., the Sheriff’s Office 911 Dispatch Center received a call reporting a single-vehicle rollover crash that occurred on State Highway 56, west of County Road SS, in the town of Liberty.

The Sheriff’s office says Steven V. Geary, 67, of rural Viola, Wis. was driving his pickup truck east on Highway 56 when he reported falling asleep. Geary’s vehicle went off the right side of the road, struck a culvert, became airborne, overturned end-to-end, and came to rest upright. A passenger, Marlene E. Geary, 66, also of rural Viola, Wis. was assisted from the vehicle by members of the Kickapoo Valley Rescue Squad and a citizen bystander.

Both the operator and passenger were evaluated by Kickapoo Valley Rescue Squad for minor injuries, but declined transport. Both were wearing seat belts.

Assisting the Sheriff’s Office at the scene were the Viola Fire Department and Kickapoo Valley Rescue Squad.

The crash remains under investigation by the Vernon County Sheriff’s Office.
