CRAWFORD COUNTY, Wis. – A 23-year-old Amish man from Boscobel was airlifted to UW-Hospital in Madison after his buggy was struck by a car around 5:15 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 3.
Crawford County Sheriff Dale McCullick reports 60-year-old Marcia Gumtow of Fennimore, Wis, was driving south on US Highway 61 when she struck a horse-and-buggy crossing the highway at the intersection with County Road W, in the Town of Scott.
The operator of the buggy was identified as 23-year-old Andy Gingerich of Boscobel, Wis. The Sheriff’s report states Gingerich was ejected from the buggy, transported to the hospital, and airlifted to UW-Madison. He has since been released from the hospital with minor injuries. Gumtow and her passenger escaped the crash without injury.
The sheriff’s office received reports that prior to the crash, the horse was acting erratic and Gingerich was trying to get the horse under control. The horse escaped the crash without injury.
