After the storms, Second Nature at Reads Creek offers a place to gather at Hidden Destination Nursery

April 23, 2026

READSTOWN, Wis. –  In a season marked by severe thunderstorms, hail, tornado warnings, and freezing nights, one local small business has been doing what small businesses do best, adapting, persevering, and continuing to show up for the community.

At Second Nature at Reads Creek, recent weather swings have meant moving large numbers of plants indoors, sometimes more than once, to protect inventory and prepare for the season ahead. It’s the kind of behind-the-scenes work most people never see, but it reflects the heart of a family-run business rooted in resilience and care.

Now, as spring unfolds, Second Nature at Reads Creek is inviting the public to experience something many still haven’t discovered, a beautiful destination nursery where nature, creativity, and community come together.

More Than a Nursery

Visitors to Second Nature at Reads Creek will find more than flowers and plants. They’ll discover:

  • Creative Workshops for Adults & Children
Hands-on experiences that inspire learning, creativity, and connection, from children’s nature programs to seasonal make-and-take classes for adults.
  • Third Thursday Market Experience
A lively monthly gathering featuring local makers, small businesses, artists, food, and community spirit.
  • Under the Arbor Culinary Experiences
Unique outdoor culinary educational events set in a naturally beautiful atmosphere, designed to bring people together around food and place.
  • A Destination Worth the Drive
Gardens, ponds, blooms, peaceful spaces, and the charm of a one-of-a-kind nursery experience.

A Story of Small Business Grit

“Small business isn’t for the faint of heart,” say owners Dave and Jen Tubbin. “But we love what we do, and we love creating a place where people can slow down, enjoy beauty, and make memories.”
