Driftless Humane Society launches shoe drive fundraiser

Oct. 9, 2025

VIROQUA, Wis. – Driftless Humane Society (DHS) is conducting a shoe drive fundraiser from October 1 through November 30 to raise funds to support their mission to rescue dogs and cats. DHS will earn funds based on the total weight of the pairs of gently worn, used and new shoes collected, as Funds2Orgs will issue a check for the collected shoes. Anyone can help by donating gently worn, used and new shoes in the entryway of DHS, which is open 24 hours a day.

All donated shoes will then be redistributed throughout the Funds2Orgs network of micro-enterprise (small business) partners. Funds2Orgs collaborates with micro-entrepreneurs in helping them create, maintain and grow small businesses in developing countries where economic opportunities and jobs are limited. Proceeds from the sales of the shoes collected in shoe drive fundraisers are used to feed, clothe and house their families. One budding entrepreneur in Haiti even earned enough to send to her son to law school.

“We are excited about our shoe drive,” said Emily Quinn, Executive Director of DHS. “We know that most people have extra shoes in their closets they would like to donate. By doing so, we raise money to continue our work caring for the homeless animals of southwestern Wisconsin, and we have the chance to help families in developing nations around the world who need economic opportunities. It’s a win-win for everyone.”

There will be a drive-thru event, “Shoes & Scoops”, on Saturday, October 18th from 10-1 pm, in the parking lot of DHS located at 1150 Nelson Parkway in Viroqua, WI. Bring your shoes and receive a Culver’s ice cream token as a thank-you. Anyone who donates a can of pumpkin with their shoes during this event will receive a second ice cream token as a bonus.

By donating gently worn, used and new shoes to the DHS shoe drive, the shoes will be given a second chance and make a difference in people’s lives around the world.
