RICHLAND CENTER, Wis. – Richland County Sheriff Clay Porter is reporting one person was seriously injured and needed to be medflighted to the UW Hospital in Madison after a plane crash near the Richland Center Airport in Thursday evening.

Porter says at approximately 6:05 p.m. and Richland County Dispatch received a 911 call regarding a plane that had crashed near the Sextonville airport on County Highway BA. Accoring to the Sheriff the plan was located in a field south of County Highway BA, just north of Nebraska Hollow Road.
Deputies and emergency personnel arrived on scene shortly after the call to assist in the extrication of the male party from the airplane. That person was identified as Mark Baenen, 54, of Spring Green, Wis. UW med flight was contacted and transported the Baenen to UW Hospital for his injuries. After the scene was cleared, The National Transportation Safety Board was contacted in regards to the crash.
It appears Baenen was the pilot since the press release does not mention any passengers but that has not been confirmed. There is no mention of the type of aircraft involved in the crash but the Richland/Sextonville airport is a small local airport.
