A Vernon County Sheriff’s Department report states that on Sunday, April 27, at approximately 8:00 a.m., the Sheriff’s Office 911 Dispatch Center was notified that an individual was attempting to forcefully enter a neighboring, single-family dwelling located on County Road LF, rural Viroqua, in the town of Viroqua. The caller reported that a male was yelling, kicking a door, and did gain entry to the home.

Deputies from the Sheriff’s Office responded immediately and arrived within eight minutes of the 911 call. An officer from the Viroqua Police Department also responded to assist the Sheriff’s Office with this “in progress” call for service. Within moments of the officers’ arrival, a male was detained without further incident. The investigation continued and the man was identified as Nicholas Thomas Kochagian, 33, of rural Genoa.

Kochagian was previously known to the victim, but was not an occupant, nor did he have permission to enter the home.

At approximately 9:15 AM, Nicholas Kochagian was arrested and later booked into the Sheriff’s Office Detention Center for:

  • 1. Criminal Trespass to Dwelling
  • 2. Criminal Damage to Property
  • 3. Possession of Drug Paraphernalia
  • 4. Operating While Intoxicated, 2nd Offense

Kochagian is being held pending a bail hearing on Monday. Formal charges will be sought through Vernon County District Attorney Angela Palmer-Fisher. A charge is merely an accusation. The defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.

The investigation continues by the Sheriff’s Office.
