VIOLA, Wis. — Three people avoided serious injury after a car overturned on a slippery highway Saturday night.
Vernon County Sheriff Roy Torgerson reported that dispatchers received a call regarding a single vehicle crash at approximately 7:15 p.m. on Jan. 17. The accident occurred on State Highway 131 near West River Road in the Town of Kickapoo.
Kierdan C. Koster, 21, of Hillsboro, was driving a sedan and lost control while navigating a curve. Torgerson said the vehicle left the roadway and struck an embankment before it overturned.
The driver and two passengers, an 18 year old and a 5 year old, were able to exit the crashed car on their own. Both passengers sustained minor injuries. Emergency responders transported the group to Readstown to keep warm while they waited for a ride home.
The sheriff reported that safety equipment was in use during the incident. Seat belts were used and there was no airbag deployment.
Officials indicated that winter weather contributed to the accident. Due to weather conditions the roadway was slippery at the time of the crash.
The Readstown Fire Department and Readstown Emergency Medical Service assisted the sheriff’s office at the scene. The crash remains under investigation.
