READSTOWN, Wis. – The Vernon County Sheriff’s Office is reporting the arrest of 58-year-old man from Arena, Wis. after he allegedly tried to use a counterfeit $100 to make purchases on Readstown earlier this month. According to Vernon County Sheriff Roy Torgerson reports the arrest of David A. Verdick, 58, of Arena as the result of an incident that occurred in Readstown on Thursday afternoon, July 11.
According to a Sheriff’s report the Sheriff’s Office received a call from a retail business in the village of Readstown reporting that Verdick attempted to purchase merchandise with fake or vanity currency, a $100 bill. Verdick had already presented photo identification to the business during an earlier purchase. The alert employee quickly realized the currency presented for payment was counterfeit. At the time of this news release on Sunday morning, July 21, Verdick is being transferred to the Vernon County Sheriff’s Office Detention Center to await a bail hearing in Vernon County Circuit Court.
