David Torgerson sustained serious injuries. He was transported to Vernon Memorial
Healthcare in Viroqua by Gundersen Tri-State Ambulance. He was later transferred
to Mayo Clinic Hospital, St. Mary’s Campus, in Rochester, MN where at the time of this
release he remains in stable condition. He was wearing a helmet.

Sheriff Torgerson stated that although the injuries were serious, he credits Wheeler for merging into the left lane when she initially saw the bicyclist, a maneuver that most likely reduced the
severity of the injuries.

In addition to the assistance from the Viroqua Fire Department, Viroqua Emergency
Medical Responders, and Gundersen Tri-State Ambulance, Sheriff Torgerson would like
to thank the motorists, including, but not limited to a paramedic, who stopped to render
aid or otherwise help.

The incident remains under investigation by the Vernon County Sheriff’s Office.
