Ongoing Vernon County drug investigation leads to arrest of 60-year-old rural Viroqua man

VIROQUA, Wis. – According to the Vernon County Sheriff’s Office a 60-year-old rural Viroqua man was arrested over the weekend as the result of an ongoing drug investigation. Vernon County Sheriff Roy Torgerson reports the arrest of Jon Charles Fanta on Friday, Feb. 28, at approximately 9:00 a.m., following the execution of a search warrant at a residence on Nelson Road in the Town of Franklin.

The Sheriff’s report goes on to say Illegal drugs, drug paraphernalia, and a firearm were located as a result of that search. Fanta was subsequently arrested and booked into the detention center on recommended charges of:

  • Manufacture/Deliver Methamphetamine 10-50 grams (2 counts)
  • Manufacture/Deliver Methamphetamine 3-10 grams
  • Possession with Intent to Deliver Methamphetamine 10-50 grams
  • Possession of Drug Paraphernalia
  • Maintain Drug Trafficking Place
  • Felon in Possession of Firearm

Jon Fanta is being held pending a bail hearing.  Formal charges will be sought through Vernon County District Attorney Angela Palmer-Fisher.  A charge is merely an accusation.  Fanta is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.

Sheriff Torgerson said in addition to his entire team, he wanted to thank Sheriff Dale Mc Cullick for the assistance of the Crawford County Sheriff’s Office.

This case remains under investigation by the Vernon County Sheriff’s Office.
